Trauma and Recovery - Judith Hermann

Personal note from a fellow survivor:

The full title of this book is Trauma an Recovery: from domestic abuse to political terror.  My therapist recommended this book to me 3 years ago at the start of my healing journey. I gravitated towards it as it quite an academic book, tracing the history of the study of PTSD in the first chapter and analysing forms of violence which go beyond sexual abuse. That made it more accessible for me as I was able to pretend that I was reading it as an intellectual exercise rather than a self-help book. It felt a little more removed from my direct experience, whilst at the same time teaching me a lot about trauma, which I found helpful.

Note: includes a chapter for survivors of childhood abuse and also I find the language gendered in a very dated way. (It was first published in 1992).
