Welcome to the Healing Collections! This is a collaborative collection of recommendations made by our community of survivors of sexual violence of St Andrews. It is comprised of things – books, podcast, TV shows, art etc. – which have personally helped us on our journeys towards healing. We hope that they will help you too! If you would like to recommend a resource yourself, please submit your recommendation at Contribute to our healing collections!  

We have tried to make it easier for you to find resources which are particularly suited to your intersectional identity, which may have had an impact on your experience of sexual violence. Each post is ‘tagged’ with the identities the recommender felt the resource would be most useful for. Of course all resources are open to everyone! We apologise if there aren’t any or many posts under some of the tags yet. Check back another time – hopefully someone will have contributed a resource that is helpful to you!

Bliss Club: Sex Tips for Creative Lovers by June Pla

it has helped me build confidence in my sexual self. It also reinforces the general truth that everyone is different and likes different things. This is important as a survivor I often feel a burden of being ‘different’ when it comes to sexual activities. Normalising this helps relieve that burden.

This book opened my eyes to the ways in which patriarchy shapes the way we relate to one another romantically, in non-romantic settings and sexually. It helped me articulate what is important to me in a relationship, what commitment, respect and communication look like to me.

This is a selection of songs I listen to when I’m in need of some woman empowerment, when I’m in a bit of a ‘f*** you, men’ mood (sorry men). Most of these songs make me feel strong and independent, although a few are a little more lowkey or emotionally piercing, like ‘bruises’ or ‘I carried this for years’.
